Game summary

Bonus Six poker is a 5-card poker game with a sixth card as the bonus card. As in five-card stud poker the player gets cards one at a time and must keep raising with each additional card dealt to stay in otherwise he or she must fold.

The added bonus in this game is that the player can choose to buy Insurance at the start of the hand. If the player does buy insurance initially he or she then has the option to buy a sixth card at the end should he or she need one following the fifth and last card.

Rules and how to play Bonus Six poker

How to play Bonus Six Poker. The game is played with a single deck of 52 cards, and is shuffled after every hand. Before any cards are dealt, each player begins by placing a bet, which is the Ante bet. At this stage, before the dealing of cards, the player may also buy insurance (for the bonus sixth card) at the cost of half the ante bet. The payment for the insurance option is not a bet or part of a wager and cannot be won or reclaimed.

To begin play, each player is dealt two cards face down and one community card is dealt face up on the table. All players may use the community card as part of their hand.

Having received the first two cards and using the community card (a three-card hand so far) the player now must decide to either stay in and raise the bet or fold. If the player folds he forfeits his ante. If the player wants to stay in and raise his or her bet, they must add to their wager an amount equal to the ante.

Next, the players who raised their bet receive a fourth card. Again, the players that still want to stay in must bet and add to their wager an amount equal to the ante, one more time, otherwise they must fold. If the player folds he or she loses the total wager; the ante and the first raise needed to get the fourth card.

Next, the players who raised their bet a second time receive a fifth (including the community card) and final card, except for those who initially took insurance. Those insured will play the Bonus Six, if necessary.

The active players (still in play) who have a 5-card winning hand are paid according to the payouts shown below. If they do not have a winning hand they lose their total wager.

Those who initially took insurance, if their 5-card hand is not a winner, they have the option to receive a bonus sixth card - hence the name Bonus Six Poker. But at a price. They must buy their bonus card and the cost of the sixth card is equal to the ante. This purchase money is lost, that is, it is not a bet or part of a wager and cannot be won or reclaimed, just like the initial insurance cost.

Players who bought and receive the bonus sixth card can now choose a five-card hand out of the six cards dealt to try to make a winning hand. The winners get paid 1:1 for the ante plus the following payouts according to the ranking, for the total amount wagered (both raises):
